Banter Booster #14: Useful tools and resources for speech pathologists
Welcome to Banter Booster! I’m David, and here’s me rediscovering my best dad-dance moves while meeting some lovely readers ‘in real life’ at a Banter-alumni-SLP-friend’s wedding!
“And I Would Walk 500 Miles…”
Like a conga line, we’ve formed ourselves into a procession of useful tools and resources for you this week:
FREE therapy resources, including tech and toddler handouts, Australian geography resources, support for moving out of home, a CAS story, and a suite of dementia resources
FREE training and learning opportunities for CAS assessment, disability law, and multilingual education settings
An activity idea for 4-letter/sound blending
Private practice tips on process, privacy and compliments
Open-access research/summaries on VAULT (a late-talker intervention), strengths and challenges, and retrieval practice for children with DLD
Perspectives on CAS and the importance of imaginary play
An official Banter Booth Invitation for SLPs attending the #SPAConf next week!
Let’s shuffle straight in!
See you in Hobart?
All feedback welcome - I can take it! (Don’t be shy!)

Activity Idea
It’s a big step moving from blending 3 sounds to 4 sounds, especially for Ss who struggle to hold sound in their working memory. The blend as you read strategy helped these students make the jump. A clear bumpy board gives multisensory feedback.

Never keep a compliment to yourself. If you’re thinking something favorable about someone, even if it’s a stranger, just tell them.
Worst case scenario, you made their day.
Best case scenario, this is the beginning of a new friendship.
Can only lead to good.

“In a world full of people who seem to know everything, passionately, based on little (often slanted) information... what a relief it is to be in the company of someone confident enough to stay unsure (that is, perpetually curious).”

If you take 3 things away with you from #PAW2023, make them:
1️⃣ Don’t collect personal information you don’t need.
2️⃣ Securely store personal information.
3️⃣ Delete or de-identify personal information when it’s no longer needed.— OAIC (@OAICgov)

Imaginary play allows young children to experiment with different roles and experience “dangerous” situations without serious risk or consequence.
Congratulations to this little guy on a championship ride… and to his dad for creating such a joyful experience.
