🛑 Unintended Consequences of Stated Supports in NDIS Plans - Sarah Collison

🛑 We’re seeing an increasing number of plans where therapy supports have been made stated thus locking in the discipline, number of hours, even the type of report required. While this may be intended to improve oversight or budget control, the reality on the ground is deeply concerning. 🔒 It limits participant choice and control. ⚠️ It puts participants at risk when their support needs shift or evolve. 🚫 It enables NDIS planners, who are not qualified clinicians, to effectively prescribe allied health supports. We’re currently working with a participant with Parkinson’s disease. His plan includes stated OT and physio only. Yet he urgently requires a swallowing assessment, the sole domain of a Speech Pathologist. Because of the way the supports were written and locked into his plan, this essential assessment can’t be accessed through his NDIS funding. This is not just a gap in service, this is a safety risk. ..
