Be bold. Be kind. Speak up. Children who stutter are at high risk of being teased or bullied simply because of the way they speak. Even one incident can leave lasting emotional scars—sometimes remembered decades later. Bullying isn’t always obvious. It can happen quietly, outside the classroom, and many children choose not to speak up for fear it will make things worse. That’s why it’s vital for parents, teachers, and peers to work together. This month marks 12 years of Kid Link OT. A milestone I should be celebrating with pride. Building a practice, growing a team, and supporting thousands of children and families has been the privilege of my career. But truthfully, that pride is overshadowed by the recent Thriving Kids announcement. The sick feeling that we are moving backwards in how Australia supports children in their earliest, most critical years is hard to ignore…. So yes, I’m proud of 12 years. But I am also deeply concerned for the families who needed support yesterday and are instead being left behind today. I urge the NDIA and the Government to start listening to families and allied health providers. We know what we're on about and what is needed. The cost of the NDIS can be reduced without harming children and their families.
